Health in summer in Mallorca: tips for a carefree vacation

Summer in Mallorca is synonymous with sun, beach and relaxation. But with the heat and the new routines, it is important to take care of yourself to avoid scares. From Vista Club Apartments we share with you these essential tips to stay healthy during your vacations in Santa Ponsa.

?? 1. Beware of the sun: protect your skin
The Mallorcan sun can be intense, especially between 12:00 and 16:00.
Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (minimum SPF 30).
Apply it before going out and reapply it every 2 hours.
Wear a hat, sunglasses and light clothing.
Seek shade during the hottest hours.

???? 2. Constant hydration: key for young and old alike.
Drink water even if you are not thirsty. Avoid dehydration.
For children and older people, offer water frequently.
Avoid sugary drinks or drinks with alcohol in excess.

???? 3. What if you need medical attention?
In Santa Ponsa and surroundings you will find accessible health centers and pharmacies:

???? 4. Tips for families with children
Avoid direct sun exposure.
Wear light clothing, hats and sunglasses for children.
Make sure they eat well and drink enough water.
Have a basic first aid kit at hand: band-aids, paracetamol, sting cream, etc.

???? 5. Health care for non-EU citizens (such as British citizens)
If you are a British citizen (or from outside the EU):

You will not be able to use the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
We recommend you to come with a travel insurance that covers private medical care.
In case of an emergency, public hospitals are obliged to treat you, but you may be billed for the costs.
If you have private insurance, at reception we can help you to contact private clinics such as:

Hospital Juaneda (Palma): +34 971 73 49 00
Clínica Rotger (Palma): +34 971 72 12 00

???? 6. Safe food in summer
Opt for light meals: fruits, vegetables, salads, fish.
Avoid foods that can spoil in the heat.
Wash fruits well and make sure that food is well refrigerated.

???? 7. Relax, we take care of you.
